This is a tribute to all those that lost their lives on 21st of october 1966

When 144 people, 116 of them being children, died.
Due to waste tip slip.

The slide engulfed the school and 20 houses in the village

On Friday, October 21, 1966 a waste tip slid down a mountainside into the village of Aberfan.
It first destroyed a farm cottage, killing the occupants.
At Pantglas Junior School the children had just returned to their classes after singing All Things Bright and Beautiful in their assembly.
The tipping gang up the mountain had seen the slide start, but could not raise the alarm because their telephone cable had been stolen.
Down in the village, nobody saw anything, but everybody heard the noise.
The slide engulfed the school and 20 houses in the village before coming to rest.

The tragedy was caused by two days of continual heavy rain loosening the coal slag, which was situated on top of an underground spring.

Men were at the site by 9.25am.
Mothers already there digging and children were being passed out.

The mothers were digging at the sludge with their bare hands until they bled as they tried to rescue the children, some of whom were there own sons and daughters.
About 4,000 men from five local collieries were on the scene very quickly these men used to working in hard conditions, men used to using a shovel and bringing their tools with them. These miners shovelled constantly to get the debris clear and worked non-stop for 10 hours. A lot of survivors were pulled out in a short time because of these men.
The rest of the day saw men from the mines, police and mothers and fathers united in the effort to save the children.
One of the biggest problems facing the rescue operation was getting vehicles to the site which is located in a cul-de sac Men, Machines and help poured into the village from all across the United Kingdom

A generation was wiped out in that 5-minute landslide.

Nobody was ever found alive after 11 am on that fated morning.

THE CHILDREN

Off to school we went that day
Never to come home and play
We were sitting their at our desks
Just a normal day like all the rest.

A big black cloud we though we saw
But we were never to see day light any more
Screams were around us and shouting to
But no one knew what to do.

Then all of a sudden things were quite
And it was as black as the darkest night
We never knew what happened that day
Only that we were taken away.

And so this story did unfold
Of a tip disaster we were told
They tipped the slag on to a stream
The coal board said it was unseen.

For many a year they added more
Until the stream could take no more
One day it moved with all its greed and
Shot down the mountain with all its speed

So fast it moved there was no warning
And when it stopped there was mourning
A farm and buildings stood in it way
But the slag was mighty and cleared its way

It came to rest up on a school
God help us, now what do we do
Help us to clear away this muck and crime
As it's covering the child that might be mine

Frantic digging was all around
Some time stopping to listen for a sound
A cry or yell was all they wanted to here
But the quietness only gave them fear

And then the body's started to come
Is this your daughter ? Is this your son?
It took a week to find them all
Ever one a poor lost little soul

But the coal board was not to blame
And would not hang there heads in shame
They didn't know the stream was there
In other words they just didn't care

Never again

I was 15 and working in Pontypridd, a nearby town. All we could hear were sirens , customers said there had been a big fire . We found out the truth when my mother came in , she wanted to see me after hearing the terrible news that so many children had been killed. I will always remember my mam and aunty crying while watching the news that evening.
My mothers sisters came over from Canada on a visit 2 years later and their Welsh friends there asked them to visit the cemetry. I will never forget that visit.

An American who has never forgotten

I was a senior in a New Jersey high school when I saw the papers and heard the news of this disaster on television. At 17, the idea of children up to ten years younger than I losing their lives in such a horrible way shook me to my core and has never left me.It was almost impossible to imagin, even with the photographs which were in the papers.
On this 45th anniversary of this disaster, which also happens to fall on a Friday, I say a prayer for the 116 young souls and for the other citizens of Aberfan who lost their lives that day. I send you love and blessings.

Volunteer

I was only 17 or 18 and serving onboard HMS Tiger, the ship was just arriving at Cardiff docks when we heard the news,we volunteered to a man/boy to help.
The memories of that day has stayed with me till the present and I will never forget.
God watch over all the little angels.

I was 8yrs old and sitting in class when the teacher accepted a note from the head. After reading it, with tears in her eyes, she told us that many miles away, in a place called Wales a disaster had happened. She told us that in a school, not unlike ours, children of our age were trapped and many mums and dads were trying to free them. We said a prayer together for the children and their parents...then next day each child took pocket money to school to donate to the disaster fund.

I am 52yrs old and can remember that day so clearly. God bless those families, the brothers and sisters, the mums and dads, the grannies and grandads, who lived with a heavy heart and memories of that awful day. God bless the children running and skipping in Gods playground xxxx

Guardian Angels from heaven so bright,
Watching beside me to lead me aright,
Fold thy wings round me, and guard me with love,
Softly sing songs to me of heaven above.
Amen.

~Angelversary Day~

This day is Angelversary
A gathering of love
To celebrate your precious one
Now safe in heaven above
May whispers from the heaven's
On this your angel's day
Touch your soul with all you need
So you're loved in every way

An angelversary so special
Of memory, delight
Thinking of your sweetheart
The beauty of their life
God bless you every moment
And hold you very near
In remembrance of your dearest
Nevermore to fear

There's angels singing for you
The light of heaven glows
'Tis only just a little while
With them you will be home
May heaven's window open
(Where your beloved waits)
With all God's peace to comfort
Your angelversary day

THINKING OF YOU ALL

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ A BEAUTIFUL PLACE CALLED HEAVEN Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ

There is a beautiful place called Heaven
Where all our angels stay
Heaven has a lovely garden
Where red roses grow everyday
Heaven's gate is made of gold
Heaven is made full of love so I have been told
For a little angel from up above
Came to me in my dreams and blew me lots of love
The angel in my dreams said to me...
This kiss I give you is from your angel in heaven you see
The angel said my loved one could not come to me
For my loved one is resting in Heaven and pain free
The angel also told me..
They have music up in Heaven above
The Cherubs are playing on their harps
And their music is made with love
The angel said Heaven has soft fluffy clouds..
That look like marshmallows all blue and white
The angel said it was a beautiful sight
The angel told me Heaven had candles made of gold
And God made them especially..
For all the beautiful angels to hold
Now the angel has told me Heaven is a beautiful place to be
When it's my turn to go to heaven..
I will be reunited with my loved one and fly free

In a baby castle, just beyond your eye,
Your baby plays with angel toys that money cannot buy.
Who are you to wish him back into this world of strife,
No, play on your baby, they'll have eternal life.
At night when all is silent and sleep forsakes your eyes,
You'll hear their tiny footsteps come running to your side
Their little hands caress you so tenderly and sweet,
You'll breathe a prayer and close your eyes and embrace them in your sleep.
Now you have a treasure that you rate above all others
You have known true glory,
You are still their mother.
